Studiolitup (SLU) is an architectural lighting design consulting firm. Founded in 2021, SLU specializes in interior and exterior architectural lighting, landscape and site lighting, controls, specification, and daylighting integration.

We blends cutting-edge lighting expertise with energy-efficient architectural lighting techniques and years of experience to deliver creative, low-maintenance, and sustainable designs.

We collaborate with architects, interior designers, manufacturer, and engineers to use light in a way that highlights the unique themes and details of each architectural space. Our Process

Liftoff

The kickoff phase of the project is designed to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the client’s background and specific requirements. During this stage, we not only educate our clients but also illustrate how lighting can fundamentally transform the space and enhance its overall usability.

Outlining

During this stage, we integrate the liftoff details and delineate the project's TODO and NOT TODO lists. Following a thorough understanding of the project, we proceed to develop conceptual lighting ideas and design inspirational boards that are specifically tailored to meet the project's needs.

Designing

Concluding the outlining phase, we commence the development of the ideas discussed by creating detailed sketches. These illustrations serve to effectively demonstrate how lighting can significantly enhance specific situations and provide the client with a three-dimensional perspective of the space.

Detailing

The detailing phase is dedicated to transforming the design into a feasible lighting scheme that aligns with the specifications established in the preceding phases, while also adhering to relevant standards and best practice guidelines. This process entails the precise specification of lighting equipment and the elaboration of the lighting design through CAD drawings and detailed documentation. These components facilitate effective construction, wiring, and installation.

Delivering

In the final phase of the process, we will provide all requisite documentation, including construction drawings, commissioning and installation guidelines. Furthermore, we will furnish a comprehensive fixture schedule, cutsheets, and a zone schedule. This compilation of documents will be instrumental during the construction phase.

Connecting

This stage is an enhancement to our process, designed to improve the overall client experience with our organization. It will enable us to remain informed and to better identify the most effective strategies for your future projects. We will ensure that communications are sent in a timely manner.

Project Stages

Design & Documentation

We use a variety of design and documentation tools to visually communicate design intent, lighting effects, imagery, and details as well as fixture specifications and photometric analyses for lighting design, control system design, custom lighting fixture design to the Design Team.

Planning & Construction

Following the lighting design and specifications through the entire construction process is critical to achieving the design intent, goals, and vision. Coordination with multiple consultants, vendors, and contractors for seamless functionality can be a last-minute task often overlooked or underestimated.

Aiming & Adjust

This is when the magic happens! The entire Design Team’s efforts come together and are fine-tuned to perfection. Directional lighting fixtures are aimed and focused. Dimming and control systems are tweaked and balanced to create the perfect ambiance, energy efficiency, and performance.

Renderings

We guide and advise the Design Team, or create from scratch, photorealistic or graphically-representative renderings of the lighting design concepts, detailing, and effects.

Mock-Ups

Mock-ups are the best way to test-out a novel and innovative lighting design solution. We collaborate with the Design Team to create project-realistic conditions within which to test our solutions.a

Cost Estimating

We work with lighting and controls manufacturing support teams to create product cost estimates that include standard profit margins for distribution and contracting exclusively of labor costs.
